Clean stove glass

Top tips for keeping your stove glass sparkling clean

There is nothing better than watching the flames flickering in your stove, so the last thing you want is dirty glass!

Stove glass can easily become stained from the soot and ash that accumulate during regular use. But with a few smart cleaning tricks, you can keep your stove glass looking clear and pristine! In this blog, we highlight a list of easy and effective methods to maintain a streak-free shine for your stove glass.

 1. Regular wiping after each use
Why: Frequent, light cleaning prevents build up from hardening on the glass.
How: When the stove is cool, simply wipe the glass down with a damp microfiber cloth or paper towel to remove any fresh ash or soot.

2. Use the power of ash
Why: Ash is a gentle abrasive that’s free and readily available from your stove.
How: Moisten a soft cloth and dip it in some cool, fine ash from your stove. Rub this onto the glass in a circular motion, then wipe clean with a damp cloth. Buff dry with a clean towel.

3. Try a vinegar and water solution
Why: Vinegar naturally cuts through grease and grime.
How: Mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Spritz onto the glass, let it sit for a few minutes, then wipe it down with a microfiber cloth. This is perfect for light grime and leaves a streak-free finish.

4. Dedicated stove glass cleaner for tough stains
Why: Tough, baked-on stains might need a stronger cleaner.
How: Apply a stove glass cleaner according to the product instructions (we recommend and stock Dirt Busters products), using a non-scratch sponge. Scrub gently, rinse with water, and wipe dry. Always check if the cleaner is safe for stove glass to avoid any scratches or residue.

5. Avoid burning unseasoned / wet wood
Why: Burning unseasoned wood above 20% moisture content causes tar build up.
How: Stick to burning dry, seasoned wood when possible, as this produces cleaner burns and less tar. Not only is it unsafe to burn wet wood, this practice will also keep your stove glass cleaner for longer.

6. Keep up a weekly deep clean
Why: A thorough cleaning once a week will prevent stubborn build up and keep your stove glass sparkling.
How: Set aside a few minutes each week to clean the glass, as well as the surrounding stove area. Consistent care will make the job much easier in the long run.

Keeping your stove glass crystal clear doesn’t need to be a time-consuming task. By using these tips regularly, you can maintain a sparkling view of your cosy fire, enhancing the overall look and performance of your stove! Contact Swept. Chimney Sweeping Services with any queries.
